This is a reminder to all who walk their dogs in the neighborhood that dogs are to be leashed when walking. This is to ensure the safety of ourselves, our children and our pets. No matter how well-trained you believe your dog to be, there can be unknown triggers that may result in a tragedy. If you see someone walking their dog without a leash and after politely asking them to leash their dog, but they don’t respond positively, you have the option to contact Jon Reisinger, Codes Enforcement Officer at: [email protected].
Note: The Township was contacted about the “under control of the owner” part of the ordinance, and we were directed to the following:
“Section 103: UNLAWFUL TO ALLOW DOGS TO RUN AT LARGE: It shall be unlawful for the owner of any dog or dogs to allow or permit such dog or dogs to run at large in the Township.”
HAMPDEN TOWNSHIP DOMESTIC ANIMAL ORDINANCES:
“Residents are reminded to keep their pets leashed or under their control, to clean up after them if they are off their private property and to prevent them from making noise that disturbs other residents. Township regulations require residents to control any animal which makes noise continuously for a period of 10 minutes or makes such noise intermittently for 30 minutes or more. Residents are also asked to refrain from leaving food outside for animals, as this practice can attract unwanted vector, such as skunks, possums, etc. Township regulations require that dogs and cats much not stray off their owner’s property, run at large in the Township or defile another person’s property. Violation of the regulation may carry a fine of up to $600 plus costs. Dog owners are reminded to be respectful of your neighbors and refrain your dog from urinating on plants and shrubs as that may damage the property owner’s plantings.”
