  • Township receives grant to install crosswalk at Srouji Park

Hampden Receives A Grant for Pedestrian Upgrades at Srouji Park

Hampden Township was awarded $100,000 from the Commonwealth Financing Authority’s Greenways, Trails, and Recreation Program on December 18 to construct critical pedestrian safety improvements along Good Hope Road in the vicinity of Srouji Park.

“The Township is incredibly appreciative of the support we have received from Senator Rothman and Representative Delozier,” President Commissioner Nate Silcox said.  “This is an exciting first step as we work to improve safety along Good Hope Road.”

Good Hope Road, owned and maintained by the Commonwealth, serves as one of the Township’s major north/south arterial corridors, carrying more than 5,000 vehicles per day and providing access to neighborhoods connected to the Carlisle Pike’s 36,000 daily commuters.  However, the corridor has long presented safety challenges that have created significant barriers for pedestrians trying to reach Srouji Park.

“Recreational spaces in our communities should be safe for all who wish to enjoy them,” said Rothman. “I was happy to support the Township’s efforts to ensure Srouji Park can be fully enjoyed by improving pedestrian access.”

In 2024, the Township partnered with PennDOT to complete a PennDOT Connects Study for Good Hope Road, which identified opportunities to enhance safety and mobility for all roadway users.  Among its recommendations were new pedestrian infrastructure near Srouji Park, including new crosswalks, sidewalks, and ADA‑accessible curb ramps.

“These improvements directly support our commitment to providing safe, accessible recreation opportunities for residents now and in the decades ahead,” said Delozier. “As the region continues to grow, investments like these are vital to ensuring our parks and public spaces remain welcoming and connected for all.”

The Greenways, Trails, and Recreation Program provides funds for planning, acquisition, development, rehabilitation, and repair of greenways, recreational trails, open space, parks, and beautification projects.
